I have been working at SCQF Partnership as a Business and Administration Modern Apprentice (at SCQF Level 6) for 3 months now.

During this time I have been involved in hosting two study visits from International Educational Institutions. I was kept really busy and found it interesting to meet people from various cultures and nationalities. This experience has allowed me to develop my hospitality and customer service skills.

I also help out with the open workshops that the SCQFP runs throughout the year, these are attended by many different organisations. I’m in charge of set-up, welcoming delegates, preparing the lunches, and sometimes ordering. My line-manager, Lorna, has encouraged me to participate in some of these events as a delegate which has helped to broaden my knowledge of the Framework.

In August, I attended a receptionist course where I learned how to develop a phone friendly manner through confidence. I have used this skill to appropriately handle simple and complex telephone enquiries.

Last month I attended a PA event with Amy (one of the Admin Team members). This provided a great chance to network and socialise with others in similar job roles.

I am enjoying this opportunity to further my business knowledge and professionalism, which will benefit me in future life and allow me to progress as an individual. I am looking forward to advancing my learning in the future by maybe pursuing a degree at university or continuing to progress at a higher level apprenticeship and to taking this invaluable experience with me wherever my career leads.

Working and learning as a MA is different from the consistent theory learning I did at school – which is good but it does feel quite strange (13 years of this does set you in a routine and frame of mind). I have adapted to this change and feel like I’m settling into the role well.

I am looking forward to the experience of the SCQFP conference in 2018 and to contributing to the set-up of a big event. I have attended events and conferences through my business class in school and had positive experience being a part of a learner and employer event.
