What is your role within the SCQFP?

I’m responsible for the SCQFP’s marketing and communications across all areas of the business, with specific responsibility for PR, blogs, publications and print management, and external events. I also support my colleague Lynda’s work on the SCQFP website.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The stories! I am lucky enough to get to hear and share inspirational stories from learners of all ages and backgrounds. We have a whole suite of case studies and videos on our website at https://scqf.org.uk/case-studies/. I’m also such a pedant that I really enjoy the proofing process, which is just as well given that we have between 20 to 30 current publications at any one time!

Career so far

I started my career working in customer services with IBM in Greenock. I progressed to various marketing roles and after seven years, moved on to Motherwell College. Initially, I provided maternity leave cover for the assistant marketing manager, and was made permanent as PR officer six months later. After another six months, I was promoted to marketing and promotions manager, and stayed in the role for two years, before moving to the SCQFP in April 2008.

Authority

Appears at Level 12 only where it is used in the phrase ‘demonstrate substantial authority’, reflecting a recognised high level and depth of expertise/expert knowledge and understanding, along with confidence. It does not mean ‘exercise authority over staff and resources’ etc, as that could clearly apply at earlier levels.

Used throughout as an adjective and applied to terms including level, skills, techniques, practices, contexts, and issues where it bears broad interpretation as ‘behaving appropriately/doing things properly and well and to notions of accepted, (including externally) prescribed standards’, as well as narrow, relating to a specific occupation designated as a profession. In this latter sense, the term applies in all contexts including academic study, eg footnoting properly.
