What is your role within the SCQFP?
I am employed as a Research Intern, where I have two key projects that I am working on. The first project is a Social Media Review where I am researching SCQFP’s social media presence and identifying potential opportunities for growth and improvement. The second project that forms part of my role is the School Ambassador Impact Review, where I will be researching the impact of the School Ambassador Programme.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that my role allows me to work independently – with support always close by – and it is intensely creative! It means that the content and structure of my workdays varies quite a bit, which I really enjoy.
Tell us a bit about your career to date
I have previously worked with North East Sensory Services, an Aberdeen-based charity that supports Blind and Deaf people, where I worked alongside their Training and Information Officer on a range of different things: supporting social media efforts, supporting website maintenance, supporting fundraising efforts, etc. I have since stayed on as a Digital Volunteer.
Simultaneously, I also worked as an eLearning Support Assistant with Centre for Academic Development at the University of Aberdeen, where I provided technical and accessibility related support for staff and students using their virtual learning environment.
Besides this, I have been the voluntary Secretary for the University of Aberdeen’s Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic Forum (BAME Forum) which works to counter prejudice and discrimination against minority ethnic students on campus by organising activities and events to promote our interests, as well as building community. The BAME Forum also advises the University on questions of race equality.
Tell us something interesting about yourself?
I once went on a solo backpacking trip to Mexico despite not knowing a lick of Spanish. When I came back home, I was close to fluent!
