SCQF Register

The SCQF Register

This register can help you find qualifications and learning programmes that are on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). This is not a register of all qualifications in Scotland because not all qualifications are on the SCQF. Only qualifications that have gone through the credit rating process feature on the SCQF.

This register does not provide information about the availability of programmes being offered at particular institutions. For that information, please contact the institution or check its website. For further details about SQA qualifications, such as National, Highers, or HNCs and HNDs, visit the SQA’s website.

Additional information

Each entry on this register includes the SCQF level, and number of SCQF credit points allocated to each programme. One SCQF credit point equals 10 notional hours of learning, so the credit points tell you the time it takes an average learner to complete the programme.

The degrees of the Open University are credit rated for the SCQF. However, its undergraduate degree programmes have the credit value allocated following the guidelines of The Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (FHEQ). Therefore, unless where noted otherwise, honours degrees of the OU consist of 360 SCQF credit points and not 480 SCQF credits. Integrated Masters consist of 480 SCQF credit points and not 600 SCQF credit points, as traditionally is the case in Scottish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

The SCQF register includes a variety of Credit Rating Bodies (CRBs) and other learning programme providers, featuring programme titles from universities and colleges listed by UCAS (except Open University programmes). The SCQF Partnership has added details about SCQF levels and credit points for these programmes. Universities and other HEIs can also add more information and upload their own programmes, or programmes they credit rate for third parties.

Archived information on HEI programmes may pre-date information from UCAS and can be from a range of other sources.

It is also important to note this is not a register of all qualifications and programmes in Scotland because not all qualifications and programmes are on the SCQF. Other qualifications/programmes that are not on the SCQF are offered in Scotland and you should refer to individual providers for further information.

The data within the register is sourced/uploaded from SCQF credit rating bodies and other partner organisations and the SCQFP makes efforts to ensure the accuracy of the information. However, the SCQFP does not accept liability for any reliance on information contained within the register.
