RPL for Learners

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) means that you can get recognition for learning you have done in a work-based environment and from learning from life experiences to support your personal and career development. 

RPL is a valuable process of reflection and consolidation of past experiences, to enable you to identify what transferable skills and learning you have achieved that can then be used to pursue your lifelong goals and ambitions.

Learning can come from life, school, paid or unpaid work, short courses or learning at college or university.

The RPL toolkit is a guidance tool that will suggest scenarios and outcomes to assist you to understand where learning has taken place and how to demonstrate this to help achieve personal, career or education goals in a dynamic economic environment.

We have suggested a number of scenarios with positive outcomes and suggestions of where to start, whilst maintaining realistic expectations.

• Increase your self-esteem and improve confidence by recognising your achievements and transferable skills and plan how to build upon this to meet your personal goals.

• RPL may be used to demonstrate learning that could be considered as comparable to standard entrance requirements for admission on a programme of study.
