The SCQF Partnership is an independent, non-biased company limited by guarantee and a Scottish Registered Charity. We work with a wide range of awarding bodies, professional bodies and other programme owners to ensure a variety of different types of learning is recognised on the Framework supporting Scottish Government’s aim to ensure parity of esteem of all learning pathways and ensuring the Framework is truly learner centred.

Our aims are to:

  • ensure that, where appropriate, all assessed learning and qualifications in Scotland are included on the Framework;
  • extend the recognition of informal and non-formal learning;
  • develop and promote the Framework as a Lifelong Learning tool;
  • develop relationships with other frameworks internationally.

Our Functions

The SCQF Partnership is a highly skilled team of experts with a wide range of functions including:

  • The approval of new Credit Rating Bodies for the SCQF
  • The quality assurance of a range of Credit Rating Bodies across the UK in relation to their SCQF credit rating activity
  • The support, monitoring and review of Scotland’s colleges’ credit-rating activities
  • Providing extensive and tailored support for existing Credit Rating Bodies on developing and maintaining processes for SCQF credit rating
  • Offering non-biased, independent, expert advice to programme owners on the credit rating process including information on potential Credit Rating Bodies in Scotland
  • Running a wide range of workshops supporting programme owners, credit rating bodies and those who wish to adopt Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) principles
  • Supporting employers in embedding the SCQF into their workforce development strategies
  • Promoting and raising awareness of the benefits of the SCQF across all sectors both nationally and internationally

The SCQF Partnership Board


The Partnership has a Board of Directors from the following organisations:

  • College Development Network;
  • Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education;
  • Universities Scotland;
  • Scottish Qualifications Authority

In addition, we have a Co-opted Director representing employer interests and another co-option is the Chair of the SCQFP Quality Committee.
