Alastair Delaney works for the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) as the Director for Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland. In addition, Alastair is the lead for QAA for Europe. Alastair joined QAA from being Director of Quality Assurance at Healthcare Improvement Scotland, where he was responsible for all quality assurance work in the NHS, and the regulation of independent healthcare. Previously Alastair was the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Inspection for Education Scotland. His responsibilities included running all aspects of the organisation and being responsible for the independence, quality, delivery and future direction of all Education Scotland’s scrutiny work from nursery’s to further education. Alastair joined HM Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) as an HM Inspector in 2000 after having worked in Community Learning and Development (adult learning, youth work and building the capacity of communities to tackle issues for themselves) in both the local authority and voluntary sectors.
QAA is responsible for the quality assurance of universities and other higher education institutions which have credit rated provision.
