At the request of our SCQF School Ambassadors, we have worked with colleagues at SQA to update our Old v New resource.

The leaflet was originally created in 2013 in response to a plea from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in Scotland to help employers understand the comparable SCQF levels of older qualifications that potential employees presented on their CVs.

However, we have recently been hearing from schools that they are also using the resource with parents and asked that the newer qualifications being delivered to young people also be included.

We have added the timelines for the National Progression Award (NPA), National Certificate (NC), Skills for Work (SfW) and Foundation Apprenticeship (FA). We have also removed the 1960s column from the table showing how current and old qualifications relate to one another in terms of their SCQF level.

It should be noted that for any awards delivered prior to the creation of the SCQF in 2001, all levels are approximate.
